Street art is an ancient tool of expression in Egypt and it's never a new phenomenon. The Egyptian street was accustomed to Pianola's, Rababa players, traditional music bands and story tellers, Saints' festivals, and the other forms of performances that used to travel around in the Egyptian cities and rural areas.
Jan25th have claimed public space through street art such as; music shows, street theaters and street performances, choreography, graffiti, posters, sculptures, screening and other forms artistic expression. .
Occupying public spaces through art is a political tool even if it's not directly connected with political demands as negotiating over claiming public spaces is a negotiation over spaces of freedom and democracy.

Monday the 17th of June, is the date of our discussion on Street Art as a tool to reclaim public space and a way of expression and creating spaces of freedom.

The discussion will be
moderated by @Mashrou3 Al Mareekh
مشروع المريخ We will have an open mic where the audience are very much welcome to express their opinions, ideas, and thoughts in whatever mean they want.

We would like to invite artists and performers to participate in the discussion with their ideas or performances.

The seminar is a part of a series called "Public Space Revolutionized" organized by the Right to the City and Public Space group and hosted by the EIPR (Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights).
