The wait is finally over; kafein is ready to open! Coffee and tea lovers come on March 8th 2014 for the KAFEIN experience! kafein is a new space in Downtown where global coffee and tea culture blends with the spirit of Cairo: eclectic and familiar, cozy and sometimes surprising, but always charming and personal. We are proud to offer a wide selection of artisanal coffees and premium loose-leaf teas, seasonal juices, and delicious healthy food. At kafein we are dedicated to creating an atmosphere that inspires thinking, creativity, new friendships and dreams. Come on March 8th to check out the space, order delectable items from our menu, and sample some free treats.

Not only is it our grand opening, but it’s also the premier of kafein’s first art exhibition. In a plural and diverse culture such as Egypt, we constantly feed on an mélange of iconographies. Visual culture is no more the effect of painting and sculpture than the artist is the sole image producer of society. At Art On The Gos second exhibition, “The Visual Meal,” three artists will serve us a visual meal made from a cultural fusion of imagery that engages Egyptian heritage, exposure to the West, and nouveau riche flamboyance. Old and vintage advertisements and articles from Egyptian magazines are rediscovered in Menna Genedy’s collage paintings. Amal Salah’s pieces combine mixed media to express her fascination with both classic and aspiring films. And Amy Arif examines the Gulf’s bourgeois aesthetics and obsession with showing off richness and wealth through her mono-prints.

Art On The Go is a mobile exhibition and art market that drives around Egypt in a pick-up truck to discover a new visual encounter. Art On The Go aims to find a new territory for art that is located between the white cube and the political street art movement and beyond the centralization of the local art map.
