Conceptions of Space: Curating Art, Architecture and the City (Portugal/Egypt)

A talk by curator Pedro Gadanho (MAAT, the new Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, in Lisbon), moderated by Omar Nagati CLUSTER (Cairo Lab for Urban Studies, Training, and Environmental Research)

Considered during the Modern period a prime dominion of architects and urban planners, the notion of space has since been appropriated and moulded by other disciplines, from sociology to art, making it a much more complex endeavour. Sharing examples of his curatorial projects as a free-lance curator and as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Pedro Gadanho , now founding director of MAAT (the new Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology) in Lisbon, will explore how space is seen today as both a social construct and a shared cultural production.

This event is promoted by the Embassy of Portugal and is organized as a part of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC)’s initiative, Art Talks, in partnership with CLUSTER (Cairo Lab for Urban Studies, Training, and Environmental Research), and the Balassi Institute, and is produced by D-CAF.
