Artist talk with Noor Afshan Mirza & Brad Butler

Mother, loosen my tongue!

The artists Noor Afshan Mirza and Brad Butler speak about the context of their practice and their current project, a film trilogy about the state of the state in Turkey that brought them from London to Istanbul, and from there to Cairo.
English with Arabic translation

Artists Noor Afshan Mirza and Brad Butler explore contradictions of inequality, power, privilege and (non) participation in a practice that until recently took the form of a fictional institution: The Museum of Non-Participation (2008-2016). Their collaboration spans over 20 years and includes moving image, performance, installation, workshops, sound, text and performed actions.

This talk is part of Cairo Museum of Contemporary Art (CAMOCA). It is a curatorial project that reflects on the history of contemporary art in Cairo and adopts specific artistic strategies inspired by projects and exhibitions of artists and curators that have worked in the region at least once before, challenging exhibition formats, categories and protocols of museums and other stable art spaces.
