Medrar for Contemporary Art announces a call for applications for a technical workshop on video making using DSLR cameras, the first course of Medrar Video School. The workshop will be held from 21 May until 4 June 2015 at Medrar.

The workshop is intended for visual artists, film directors and photographers who seek to learn the techniques of video making, using DSLR cameras.

The workshop is instructed by cinematographer Mohamed Helmy, with the participation of filmmakers and producers who will share their experiences in video making and production. 

Conditions for participation:

Availability on workshop days: Sunday - Tuesday - Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. (7 sessions)
Participants should have a DSLR camera and laptop
Pay workshop fees at Medrar, after receiving acceptance email (700 EGP)
Workshop fees are non refundable after the beginning of the workshop.

Deadline to submit application: 16 May, selected applicants will be notified on 19 May.

The instructor:

Mohamed Helmy
Photographer, cinematographer and video editor working between Cairo and Asyut. Helmy was mostly interested in street photography and environmental portraits, until he made the transition to video in 2011. Helmy is working as cinematographer and editor for Medrar TV since 2013.

Guest speakers:

Ahmed Khaled
Filmmaker, visual and multi-media artist
Throughout his career as a filmmaker and a video artist, Khaled has directed numerous documentaries and commercial TV advertisements. He directed and produced award winning films 5th pound (2005) and Fisheye (2007). 

Emad Maher
Filmmaker and graphic artist
Maher has worked as director, cinematographer and editor at Fig Leaf Studio, Alexandria. He worked on numerous independent and short films. He directed Lamba Neon (2008), Atef (2009), Zakaria (2012), and My Nineties (2013). 

Mostafa Youssef
Filmmaker & producer
Mostafa Youssef has directed and produced documentaries for NGOs including Care, ACT, Environment Television, and for broadcasters such as Al Jazeera. 
His films - Blue Dive (2011), Shawarby st.(2005) and Call of Madness (2006)- have won numerous awards and was internationally selected for several international festivals.
