Photovoltaic grid-tied Systems – Introductory Course

The course provides the basics in the transformation and use of solar energy into electricity and through photovoltaic systems, and the technical knowledge and understanding to design and install small scale grid-tied photovoltaic systems. The participants will get an introduction in the solar energy potential in Egypt, the components and functionality PV systems and learn how to design and install roof-top PV systems.

Main topics:
• Overview of the world renewable energy market, present situation, solar potential in Egypt.
• Overview of photovoltaic (PV) systems (stand-alone, grid-tied, back-up, farms), influence of climatic, geographical and physical conditions onto the performance of PV systems (introduction).
• Economic and ecological assessment of photovoltaic plants.
• Electro technical basics (series, parallel connection, current, voltage and their influence on yields, I-V-characteristic curve).
• Components of grid-tied PV system - photovoltaic modules, Inverters, cables
• Planning and design of grid-tied PV systems.
• Calculation of roof-top systems (stand-alone, grid-tied and back-up).
• Commissioning and operation of PV plants, fault finding and quality assurance.

Students, graduates and professionals from the following fields: Electro-mechanical and Environmental engineering, Technicians, electrical contractors, energy consultants, engineers and architects, marketing and administrative staff of photovoltaic companies and interested parties

Entry Requirements:
Participants need basic electrical knowledge (what is voltage, amperage, energy etc.)
