In this 5-day, introductory workshop, we will learn and practice the basic elements of Playback Theatre. In particular, we will identify and develop the skills needed for transforming true stories into improvised enactments that are rich in artistry, attunement and effective ensemble work. In addition to learning various Playback performance forms, we will also focus on voice development, movement practice, acting skills and group improvisation. Over the duration of the workshop, participants will gain experience in the roles of Conductor (facilitator), Actor and Musician. We will also experience the structure of a full Playback performance from beginning to end 

This workshop is accredited through the Arab School of Playback Theatre, an affiliate school of the New York-based, Centre for Playback Theatre

PLAYBACK THEATRE
In a Playback Theatre event, people share real life stories and watch as a team of actors, or fellow community members, transform these accounts into improvised theatre pieces. Playback is currently used in over 60 countries as a tool for community building, cultural activism and collective trauma response

ATTENDANCE POLICY
For the benefit of group process, full attendance is required. We therefore ask you to apply only if you can commit to attending the entirety of each and every session of the selected workshop. We also ask you to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of each session. Doors close at the start time and latecomers will not be admitted. If a participant misses more than one session, they may be asked to discontinue the workshop
