Workshop for producing a graphic novel' architecture/urban-related publication 
“Rollercoasting The City”

Instructors: Agnes Michalczyk – Motasem

As a part of Art and Theory program in MEGAWRA, the graphic novel’ workshop comes as an attempt to express architectural ideas through new media.
The main topic of the workshop would be the city of Cairo and our personal experiences of it. We will go through districts, streets and alleys to come up with scenes of chaos narrated from different perspectives.
The final product should lead to an exhibition and tuned to be a first of its kind periodic publication that talks about architecture in a graphic format.

Participants’ selection: 17 Jan 2014
Workshop begins/ends: 18 Jan – 15 Feb 2014
Duration: 5 weeks - 5 sessions/each around 4 hours.

Workshop Structure: 
• Session 1: 
Introduction + crash course in developing the script.
• Session 2: 
Discussing the story ideas - developing it (work in groups).
Introduction to different visual approaches.
Discussing samples of participants work - for corresponding visual concepts.
• Session 3: 
Discussing of visual / narrative concepts - work in groups.
Introduction in storyboarding / page layout. 
• Session 4: 
Finalizing visual /narrative concepts - work in groups.
• Session 5:
Finalizing the product.

Level: Advanced
Requirements: Participants should have basic knowledge in drawing and rendering techniques. Participants are required to bring their own materials (pencils - drawings sheet…etc.)
Selection Criteria: Samples of related work should be submitted by email before the deadline.
Fees: 220 LE

Instructor bios: 
• Agnes Michalczyk: Born on 1984 in Cracow, Poland.
She has a degree in painting from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany.Since 2012 she is teaching drawing at the graphic design at Applied Arts – GUC (German University in Cairo)(website: www.agnesmichalczyk.com)

• Motasem: Born (1982) and raised in Cairo, Egypt. A professional scriptwriter and TV producer that has worked on various projects in all stages of development. Currently freelancing with Sony Pictures for TV as a TV producer.
