Bashkatib is a limited liability company, founded in 2013, that works to establish and support a network of sustainable, youth-run media outlets in marginalized local areas in Egypt. Community media outlets produce print publications, distributed for free in the local area, and simultaneously publish multi-media content to the Bashkatib online portal atwww.bashkatibnews.com.

Bashkatib establishes each media outlet through trainings offered to groups of youth, aged 12-17 years, living in selected local communities. Our staff closely mentors each youth group over years, providing them with skills and resources to manage a community media outlet.

Bashkatib initiated its first media outlet in the Dar El Salam neighborhood in Cairo in January 2014, and has since began working with youth groups in Aswan and Mansoura.

In addition to producing print publications, youth journalists join the online Bashkatib portal, where they upload news, stories, photos and videos from their communities. You can access local news content in Arabic from across Egypt at www.bashkatibnews.com.
