‘Hassan and Naima’ is Soad Hosny’s first big film, some people call it Egypt’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. It’s an old folk story that shows us the impossible love between two lovers. Hassan is a poor singer in a folk troupe, performing on weddings. Naima is the daughter of a rich village elder, betrothed to Atwa who only wants to marry her because of her father’s riches. Hassan comes to ask for Naima’s hand, but Atwa vows to kill him.

‘Hassan and Naima’ continues to be a very popular classic. As always, we’re screening the film with English subtitles, so if you didn’t see this love story yet, join us this Sunday!
