Dear Friends working in Egypt's Education sector,

Safarni is excited to invite you to a one-time-only workshop on mentoring by Berlin-based mentoring experts: Gloria Amoruso and Florian Stenzel from Kein Abseits!

This program is for anyone interested in discovering the benefits and how-tos of creating a mentor-mentee program. Mentoring programs provide children (mentees) with a positive role model (mentors). By spending quality and regular time together, the two establish a personal relationship. This relationship (and program) in turn help strengthen the children's personal and social confidence, with children performing better in school and in private.

Topics covered will be:
I. A short introduction into the historic development of mentoring with children and youth
II. Outcomes and limitations of the one to one mentoring approach
III. What we know about quality management of youth mentoring programs
IV. What helped us when we started

At the end of the training the participants will:
- know about possible outcomes for children who took part at a mentoring program
- have a deeper understanding of different processes which are related to the quality of results
- have more knowledge for deciding if mentoring fits their organisation and the target group

The training is interesting for
- staff of organisations who supports children with an holistic approach and have experience with volunteering
- decision makers from foundations and administration who are interested in the subjects of children's health and well-being, integration and prevention of social exclusion and active citizenship.

About the facilitators:

Gloria Amoruso, Master in European Studies and PhD student in political science, is social entrepreneur and mentoring-fan. After her own experience as a mentor of a nine-year old boy with Arabic background in 2010, she founded her own organization called kein Abseits! in 2011.

Florian Stenzel, degree in pedagogy, has been working as a mentoring coordinator since 2009, first for the Nightingale Project of one of Berlin´s public universities (Freie Universität) and since 2013 for the organization kein Abseits!, which he supported right from the beginning.

In addition, Gloria and Florian dedicate themselves also to the promotion and qualitative development of mentoring projects. That´s why they have co-founded a Berlin network of mentoring projects in which Florian Stenzel is part of the board. Recently they are running the European Mentoring and Befriending Exchange Programme as a first step towards a European Mentoring Network.

kein Abseits! promotes the equal access to education and the exchange between people from different living environments establishing mentor-mentee-relationships for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
