Film Though I Know the River is Dry (2013) and Talk

Omar Hamilton - 2013

Omar Hamilton, a filmmaker, producer of the Palestine Festival of Literature and a founding member of the Mosireen Collective, will join us for a screening of his film “Though I Know the River is Dry” (2013). The film screening will be followed by a talk and discussion. The film tells the story of a man's return to Palestine years after making a decision to emigrate to America. The story is told through parallel timelines, interweaved with archival footage.

Omar Hamilton has made dozens of short documentaries on the Egyptian Revolution since 2011. His second fiction short, Though I Know the River is Dry (2013), premiered in competition at Rotterdam where it won the Prix UIP. It won Best Short from the Arab World at Abu Dhabi and was nominated for Best Short Film at the European Film Awards. His films have appeared on the BBC, al Jazeera and several domestic Egyptian channels; his articles in the Guardian, the BBC and Jadaliyya and his photographs in the Guardian, the Economist and the Daily Beast.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.
